1. Search terms are too broad
The keyword you bid on is not always the exact query the user typed. Review the Search Terms report regularly. Add negatives for research, jobs, free, DIY, irrelevant locations and unrelated services when they do not match your offer. Broad match can work, but only with strong conversion data and controls.
2. The campaign is targeting the wrong intent
A keyword can look commercial but still attract the wrong stage of buyer. Separate urgent service searches from informational searches. High-intent campaigns should not share the same goals and budgets as broad awareness traffic unless there is a deliberate reason.
Our Google Ads management process connects keyword intent with campaign structure and the landing page.
3. Location settings are leaking
Check whether campaigns target people physically in the service area or also people merely interested in that location. Review city, state and user-location reports. Local businesses should not pay for clicks from places they cannot serve.
4. The ad promises something the business cannot deliver
Aggressive ad copy can increase clicks but reduce qualification. Price claims, instant-service language or overly broad service promises may bring the wrong people. Use the ad to pre-qualify: mention the service type, geography, audience or minimum requirement when useful.
5. The form makes every visitor look like a lead
A name and phone field can create more form fills but gives the sales team very little context. Add one or two qualifying fields such as service needed, location, budget band, business type or timeline when appropriate. Do not make the form so long that qualified users abandon it.
Use conversion rate optimization to balance lead volume with lead quality rather than blindly minimizing form friction.
6. Google is optimizing to the wrong conversion
If every page view, WhatsApp click and low-intent form is marked as a primary conversion, automated bidding can chase weak signals. Define primary actions carefully. Where possible, import qualified lead or sale outcomes from the CRM so the system receives better feedback.
A strong reporting setup should connect Google Ads with analytics and lead tracking.
